express Rail Link — Hong Kong West Kowloon station

The Future of Infrastructure

In the heart of Hong Kong and with 15 rail tracks, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station is a multi-level underground station with a footprint of over 11 hectares (27 acres), and is the largest underground facility of its kind.

Being one of the southernmost high-speed rail stations of the national, more than 25,000-kilometres long, high-speed passenger rail network, West Kowloon Station forms the gateway to Mainland China, directly connecting Hong Kong to other major hubs in the country.

AECOM is the engineering lead for the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. Following its successful completion of the Preliminary Design for this station, AECOM was commissioned to undertake the scheme design and detailed design of the station in joint venture with Aedas. AECOM led a major multi-disciplined collaborative effort amongst our HK Transportation team, Geotechnical team, Building Engineering team, Water, Landscape and Environment team and our China Delivery Centre.

Built on reclaimed land, the scale of excavation and structure of this underground project is one of the largest in the civil engineering history of Hong Kong. The foundation design had to address the complex location of the site as it lies between two railway stations to the north of the West Kowloon Cultural District, with large scale high-rise property above. The Express Rail Link is now serving passengers on their journeys every day.
