The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Link is a combination of the HZMB, a 29.6-kilometres long bridge plus tunnel project, the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF) project, and the Macao Boundary Crossing Facilities (Macao BCF) project — these are all
As a new landmark in the region, these projects underscore Hong Kong as a vibrant global and metropolitan city and a gateway for the western part of Pearl River Delta that encourages economic and sustainable development between the regions. In addition to the Macao BCF, AECOM is also tasked with critical components of the HZMB Link project: HZMB’s sub-sea crossing section consisting of two artificial islands and immersed tunnel, and the majority of the HKBCF.
The sub-sea crossing section includes two artificial islands and a tunnel — at 5,664-metres long, which is the longest immersed tube tunnel for road traffic in the world. Construction of the artificial islands and immersed tunnel section is the most critical and difficult part of the project, performed over the open sea which presents a major engineering challenge.
AECOM’s services for artificial islands and the immersed tunnel included construction management, project management, risk management and technical advisory. AECOM’s services for HKBCF covered planning, investigation, detailed design, contract administration, site supervision and construction management; while providing technical advisory services in the Macau BCF project.
