AECOM led the civil and port integration planning and feasibility analysis for utilizing Hyperloop technology for freight movement in the Los Angeles Basin.
The study examined technology integration, route analysis, environmental benefits, and potential barriers for the Hyperloop technology, and focused on what main benefits Hyperloop technology could provide to Southern California. Key quantitative benefits that were studied included reduced truck vehicle miles traveled, CO2 emissions reduced, and socio-economic benefits to the surrounding regions. As part of this, AECOM studied other alternative technologies for freight movement to compare benefits and system applications. Other technologies studied included electrified rail, alternative fuel freight trucks, dedicated zero emissions truck corridors, and maglev trains.
