Hudson Bergen Light Rail Transit System

The Future of Infrastructure

This US$2.25 billion project – created to meet growing demand for public transportation and help alleviate congestion in the sixth most densely populated county in the U.S. — was the first rail design-build-operate-maintain project in the country at time of contract.

The work includes 16 miles of mainline track and 24 passenger stations; an electrified double track with overhead catenary power supply; 53 light rail vehicles; four park-ride lots; an 100,000-square foot maintenance shop; an 75,000-square foot vehicle storage building; and a 40-acre storage yard.
